when started a moaning, from the rear of engine ,, then when a person moves postion it seems the moan moves to the front. It subsides when motor gets warm,,,So the only thing I can say with certainty is I dont know where it is coming from. All is stock, 2 barrel ,, cant seem to see any hoses missing. does sound like internal...

Never heard a "moaning" from an engine... from the owner, but not the engine. Can you describe some more? Knocking, tapping, clicking, rubbing, etc...? _________________ PontiacRegistry.com... building the single largest source of Pontiac information, services, and entertainment in the world! |

I suppose it could be a rubbing,, low pitch certainly not a squeak ,,maybe water pump ,until impeller gets warm?
behind the water pump is a part of the motor caseing that has a flat portion, with two mounting holes, a componant was there in the past. any idea what could have been mounted there. I have no a/c no power brakes, no power steering
can napa supply a 2gc carb kit??
thanks for info isnt this fun _________________ |

If the noise goes away after warm-up... problem solved! Kidding, but if it is serious it won't go away, only get worse. Try removing the belt and run the engine. If the water pump, it should stop. You can run until warmed up with no damage. Just like until the thermostat opens.
I can't find any photos or illustrations of your engine that can help. I would suggest you find and buy a Parts Manual. That will answer a lot of your questions.
NAPA used to handle a lot of older car parts. It's worth asking. Otherwise a Google search should turn up a lot of other sources. _________________ PontiacRegistry.com... building the single largest source of Pontiac information, services, and entertainment in the world! |
