Pontiac Style Numbers
What do all those numbers mean?
If you are new to the Pontiac hobby, the very first thing you want to do is to properly identify your Pontiac body style. This is critical in parts identification. More often than not, items are not interchangeable from one model to another – even though they look alike. Knowing your proper style number can save you lots of money by not buying the wrong part, or by properly identifying the correct part.
In the following listing you will find year groupings which identify each body style by description (ie: 2-door hardtop, 2-door sedan, convertible, etc.) followed by the proper factory body style identification number. This number is also located on the firewall identification plate inside the engine compartment. Pontiacs manufactured prior to 1933 utilize a term “job number” synonymously with the term “style number”.
