Hello All,
I have a good friend in the Czech Republic who is a big fan of old American iron. He has bought a 1963 Bonneville Convert from a German guy. The German guy had restored the frame, BUT threw away all the old body and core mounts. What this means, we have NO idea how many of each type of the body mounts we need to buy, and the correct bolt lengths for the mounting hardware to get.
René tells me he thinks there are 18 mounts total, based on holes he sees in the frame and corresponding holes in the body. René's English is limited. I do know some Czech, due to me being a collector of Tatra cars. I help René with parts for his American iron, and he in turn helps me get parts for the Tatras. I have been trying for 4 months to get this info, Not even OPGI or Ames Performannce can tell me anything definite, even though they do sell the parts. I found this registry, and maybe someone here has the knowledge we seek. If it was a relatively rare Hudson or Tatra, I wold have an gotten the answer quickly. It seems odd that it can be so hard to get info on a relatively mass produced car like the 1963 Pontiac Bonneville.
Now for the mounts, some of them are square. According to Steele Rubber, the square ones go in the frame holes #1, 7, 8, & 9. I think they are referring to the holes on each side of the frame from front (#1) to rear (#9). Is this correct? I think the square mounts use the 2" long bolts, and I am not sure of the round mounts that seem to be under the passenger compartment, do they use the 3" bolts? I think the German guy may have had to grind, cut the old rusted bolts and mounts off, and then carelessly tossed them in the "Mülleimer" (garbage can) Wer weiß? (who knows).
In looking at the Ames Performance catalog, I see also listed "core supports" that look like the square mounts previously mentioned. Are these the same on the '63 Bonneville? As you can probably guess, the wide variety of these mounts and the hardware for them is bewildering, and no one wants to spend hundreds of dollars for the wrong parts to be shipped overseas. Anyways, I anxiously await and advice and knowledge someone could share on the subject. Many Thanks in advance! Mnohokrát děkuji předem! Vielen Dank im Vorraus!
