Most all replacement quarter panels extend up into the lead seam in the roof. However, if you do not need to go that far to repair rust or damage, I wouldn't.
If you cut out a donor panel, take as much as you can. But carefully analyze what you need to remove from your car to repair and trim accordingly. Most the time you can cut and blend back together along a body feature rather than in a flat area where blending together will be more difficult.
One of the hardest areas is dealing with the inner panels: trunk floor, inner fender, etc. Start with a bigger panel, remove a much smaller area and test fit and trim as you go. Perhaps an expert, familiar with a certain car knows exactly what and where to cut, but the average hobbyist can do just as good by moving slowly. Remember about slow welding too so you avoid warping the panels.
If you do a search on You Tube for "Quarter Panel Replacement" you will find a ton of good video examples of this process. _________________ PontiacRegistry.com... building the single largest source of Pontiac information, services, and entertainment in the world! |
