Hello All,
I am having trouble finding replacement hood springs for my 1947 Streamliner. I don't have the original ones.
Does anyone know of a source to try or a remanufacacturer that might make them?
I know that the Chevrolet springs are being remade for that year but I don't know if they will work.
Thanks so much for any help,
Joseph

I would suspect that '46-48 springs might be the same, but the interchange manuals don't go into that much detail. That would narrow the search if you were looking for NOS items.

Finding used or junkyard springs usually doesn't help (I know from my '40) because they are pooped out or badly rusted and weak.

Just a thought.... Check under "AFFILIATES" then "Member Discounts" and look up Eaton Spring up in Detroit area. Mike there is very helpful, and if they do not have actual capabilities to make you new springs, perhaps he will have some advice of where to look. They give our members a nice discount and have helped a number of us so far.

Please let us know what you find out.

Hello Larry,
Thanks for your suggestion.
However Mike from Eaton said they don't make hood springs and wasn't able to give me any ideas.

I'd be grateful if anyone out there has another suggestion like the name of a hood spring remanufacturer.
Thanks again,
Joseph

Well, I guess you were one step ahead of me.

A search sure doesn't pull up anything at all, other than hinge repair. I spoke to a fellow a couple years ago who had to have springs fabricated for his '53 Pontiac-- like a hundred of them just to get what he wanted. That is a bit pricy though.

Time to scoure all the parts suppliers, I guess to see if you can get lucky. I think this is why so many cars at shows have fancy sticks holding up their hoods.

Even after finding a brand new NOS hood bow with hihges for my '40 many years ago, no springs I tried from anywhere (junkyards) would either hold the hood up well, or pull it down into position... so I went the stick route too.

If you find a source, please let us all know.
