Hello everyone! I'm new here and new to the "forum" thing. I recently bought a 56 Starchief and would like to know if anyone could tell me where I could find the "Pontiac" hood script emblem located at the nose of the hood. Any help anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to PontiacRegistry.com

Once upon a time you could find these sort of items in junk yards, but a number if years ago people got wise to the growing hobby and pilfered these sort of things. I remember a Pontiac fellow up in Wisconsin who poped every Pontiac he could at every yard he went to... weather he needed them or not. You always knew when you were at a yard after he had been there.... all lettering, traffic viewers, clocks, knobs, hood ornamnets, etc. were gone on every Pontiac in the yard.

Today, the best chance of finding lettering is from dealers. Check in our "Members Discount" area (under "AFFILIATES"). These are places that give our members a nice discount also. Check with Kurt Kelsey's Pontiac Parts and California Pontiac Restoration for starters. They deal in many of the older parts. Check the descriptions on others too; you never know when you might get lucky.

Don't forget to place a wanted ad in the Classifiers also. Keep us posted on your progress.

Thanks for the info! It was very helpful and although I paid premium bucks for it, I did get it. I didn't realize just how hard it is to locate it! I will be posting pics of the car soon. Now that I started doing research on the car I have come to the theory that it's a chieftain and not a starchief. LOL
