|

I have a friend that is wanting to upgrade the exhaust system on his '65 Catalina 2dr hardtop.
He is wanting to run headers (he has made some modifications to the original 389 - D-port heads) with a 2 1/2 dual exhaust system. Are there any headers of other model Pontiacs that will work on the '65. The guy is running a tight budget, so price is an issue.
I know Ponti-Action Racing offers a set of headers, but they are too pricey for this guys budget.
Any suggestions would be helpful.
Thanks.

Hi Super.
Usually A and F body headers will fit a B body chassis with little or know modifications. Sometimes a dimple will have to be made to clear a steering arm, but most of the time they bolt right in.
A little more pricey, but a set of long branch manifolds will also work. |

Thank you for the reply. My friend will probably go with a set of headers. He is on a really tight budget. For the money he has in his ride, he has a beautiful car.
Thanks,

Tell him to forget the headers they will only cause him headaces and alot of frustration down the road. Instead a set of GTO Ram Air Dport manifolds would be a good choice even with a modified engine! Just my 2 cents from experience! |

I have used a set of Doug Thorley 3 tube headers in the past, they did require a clearance dimple but sounded great. With the extra thick mounting flange I did not have any issues with them coming loose like you find with other headers. _________________ |
