can anyone tell me what year this block is? tried VIN/block search, got nothing.
1970 GTO , was told it is a 455, can't confirm.
on front of block ,have 689693 XE |

The '70 GTO didn't have an XE. It did have an XP 455 though.
There is an XE 455 shown for the '73 GTO 455. Perhaps you have a later transplant engine.

According to the "Pontiac V8 Engines 1955-1981" book, XE used on '69 428, four '73 455's, '66 389, '67 400, but could find no match to the other number. Is this stamped or cast in block near distributor? The cast number is the one that is listed in the referenced book.
