Old horns are so much fun, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I have taken my horn apart several times to fix these problems, it seems that everytime I think I have it fixed, I don't. The horn was working fine and then it just started blaring, I had to pull the power wire to shut it off.
Horn relay??

It sure sounds like the horn relay... and you did the usual roadside fix.

If you check in our On-Line Service Manual Reference Library, you will find the complete 1949-1954 manual which covers the horn problems. But, for a shortcut, check in our Magazine Contents List and find the article titled "Fixing a Sick Pontiac Horn" that was from the manual I just mentioned.

Sometimes the horn relays are just pitted and carboned up a bit. A fine piece of sandpaper will clean them up and they won't stick again. If you have to replace the relay, contact California Pontiac Restoration, Kelsey Pontiac Parts, Marx Parts, or some of the other suppliers who give our members nice discounts. Look under "Afiliates" and then "Member Discounts."

Check the article and keep us posted on the fix. In the mean time, just don't drive to close behind big burley truck drivers who don't understand old cars.
