Greetings and Hi to All,

Hope this is the answer I am looking for as to dealing with pontiacs. I have a 57 Star Chief 2dr. Ht. built in California and I seem to be the 3rd. owner of this car. Right now it is going through a complete rotisery restoration. It has the orginal 347 engine with the jetaway transmision. For those who want to know where it stands in the grouping the ID number is: C857H3964 so this is where it stands in the pecking order. So I hope that any information I need I can get some help with and maybe get this done. Anyone wanting to talk or chator what ever just get with me.

Bob

Welcome to PontiacRegistry.com. We hope we can help you as you restore and enjoy your teriffic Pontiac. There is much here, and so much more in the works. We welcome your participation and sharing of your Pontiac information and knowledge.

As for your '57 Star Chief-- what can we say other than "Lucky You!" What a great Pontiac to own.

Not only do you have one of the hottest Pontiacs ever, but you also have a very low production car, and a very low production number car too. The numbers you give decode as follows: "C"= built in Southgate, California; "8"= series ("8" for "28"); "57"= year; "H" = Hydra-Matic transmission, and the "3964" is the unit number from the CA plant.

The sequence numbers all started at 1,001, so with a little subtraction, we see you have the 2,963rd Star Chief built at that plant. The sequence numbers end at 11,387, so only 10,386 were built. With production of '57 beginning Oct. 17, 1956 and ending Sept. 13, 1957, just shy of 11 months, that would average out to approx. 944 per month, making your car most likely built about January 20, 1957.

Again, welcome to PontiacRegistry.com! Please let us know however we can help you.
