I just rebuilt my Hyda-Matic on my 64 Bonneville. Everything seems ok but I can't get a smooth shift into 3rd. I followed the book (didn't work) and am currently adjusting the top linkage looking for the spot that will work properly. The linkage seems tight and I will check it again. does anyone have any suggestions?? _________________ |

I adjusted the adjustment at the firewall all the way to the top then adjusted the carb rod so it needs to be pulled a little bit forward snap onto the carb ball.
After I put a few thousand miles on my 64 Bonneville's newly rebuilt Hydro it shifted smoother and faster.
I would set it up so it shifts quickly and smoothly until it brakes in a little.
Then you can go after getting more "time" in second gear.
I love my 64 and the Hydro is a big part of it.
If you ever change the rear end go for the 2.56 posi.
Its the best of both worlds with the Hydro.
Pulls out like a beast and cruises like a overdrive. _________________ |

Pitt,
Sorry to hi-jack this thread, but I was wondering about your pass-side mirror. Was that a factory/dealer option, or did you add it?
Would like to add one to my '63 GP, but only if it was a Pontiac piece. _________________ Reid W. Prinkey

Reid,
The mirrors are aftermarket 59 Ford look alikes, from the 60s.
I prefer them to the round mirrors because you can see better from them. They also have a locking screw. Once you have them adjusted, you can lock them in.
I also liked the way they looked.
I bought a pair of round mirrors from Ames and the reflection is very bad. However the chrome is great.
I'm building a pro touring car.
Good luck,

If you can't get a smooth shift into 3rd, you may have a problem with the trimmer valve/spring in the accumulator. Should be an easy fix. |
