I have a 1954 straight-eight engine, that was last running about 5 years ago. Currently, the engine is seized and no amount of strength will move it. I have poured diesel into the plugs and have let it sit for a couple of months. Should I keep adding diesel and let it sit longer or try something else? _________________ |

I haver owned a couple '54 Pontiac and have loved them. That straight 8 is a smooth, strong engine... well, I guess when it's turning that is.
A while back, Old Cars Weekly sent out a request for ideas on what best to use to free up a stuck engine.
You are on the right track thinking automatic transmission oil as it is a super cleaner fluid. But the best agreed on formula was a 50-50 mixture of automatic transmission oil and toluene (which you can get at Home Depot).
Give it a try and be patient (as it appears you already have been). Hopefully rings and such aren't stuck, but this will at least be the first step in getting it purring again.
Let us know how you do. _________________ PontiacRegistry.com... building the single largest source of Pontiac information, services, and entertainment in the world! |
