where to find codes for the numbers I found on the rear pumpkin. 57 chieftain
Driver side -- D107 with 11 on the bolt on cover
passenger side-- 522488,, 5 could be a 6?
am I correct that to drain differential, just pull out bottom bolt??

Unfortunately so many of the stamps, markings, etc. have not been documented. The factory did a lot of things that only they were actually concerned with. I'm not saying this is the case here, but the Service Manual says nothing of such markings. Probably even Giorgio Tsoukalos wouldn't know!
The only thing the manual gives are paint codes on axle ends for figuring ratios.
How are those makings made, with paint, stamping, tags? Are the bolt heads stamped?
As for draining, I'm surprised there is no good old drain plug. I thought only newer vehicles like the Dakota I had skimped by eliminating a drain plug. If the bottom bolt is where the drain is, go for it. You'll know one way or the other. Otherwise buy a small suction pump like I did at the local box store.
