1967 GP Convertible Deck Lid

Will a '67 catalina deck lid fit a GP convertible for '67??

A couple of quick searches shows a '67 Catalina trunk lid for sale on eBay that states it fits Catalina, 2+2, and Grand Prix, but NOT Bonneville.

Frank at Frank's Pontiac Parts (great place and great guy!) shows pictures of '67-'68 Catalina trunk lids and one for a Bonneville. The Bonneville one looks much longer.

Don't have my Hollander Interchange Manuals with me, but will check them tomorrow.

Just checked the Hollander Interchange Manuals, and it pretty much suports our guesses.... with one surprise.

Hollander shows the '67 Grand Prix (without specifying hardtop or convertible) accepts the '67 2+2 convertible trunk lid, and '67 GP lid (I guess meaning hardtop and convertible interchanging), and the '67 & '68 Catalina and Ventura..... however.... It states "except 2-dr hdtp."

That I find very odd. Meaning, I guess, '67 & '68 Catalina and Ventura sedans of both 2- and 4-door variation, and 4-door hardtop.

I am a bit befuddled about why the 2-door hardtops won't interchange. Sometimes Hollander shows something not interchanging because of things as simple as trim. I don't know if that is the case here though.

I would suggest moving carefully before buying a hardtop trunk lid without careful examination. Perhaps someone like Frank at Frank's Pontiac Parts, or Steve at Indiana Pontiacs could shed some light on this. Frank's ad is to the left here, and Steve's contact can be found by looking above under "AFFILIATES" and the "Member Discounts." Either have tons of knowledge in these years of Pontiacs.

Frank at Frank's Pontiac Parts was very helpful. Frank indicates that a '67 Catalina HT deck lid won't fit the '67 GP (HT or convertible) because of the significantly different roof lines: The '67 Catalina had a fastback style that made for a very short deck lid.
However, the deck lid on either the 2dr or 4dr SEDAN '67 Catalina WILL fit the '67 GP due to the sedan's more "formal" roof line (as with the GP).
Awaiting feedback from Steve at Indiana Pontiacs...

Well, that makes sense. I knew Frank would know all about it- a good guy, and smart too.

Don't know why I didn't think of that. I've owned a '67 Ventura 2-door hardtop and, yes, it was a real sloper, roof-wise. I bet a picture of the sedans' roofs would match up pretty well to the GP.

Steve should be able to help too, and I know he is closer to you in Indiana than California. However shipping isn't that bad today and Frank is well equipped to prep it for you. Plus, when was the last time you saw southern California rustfree parts in your neck of the woods? Of course, that is if Frank has the lid you need, I guess.

At least you know what you are hunting for now, and hopefully we helped you prevent a wrong purchase.

Haven't been able to find a replacement deck lid for my 1967 GP convertible. I've tried (thanks to the very helpful folks originating with Pointica registry ) to locate alternate, fitting deck lids from '67 sedans (Catalina and Ventura) and convertibles, (Catalina and Ventura) as well as GP hardtops with no success... other than finding ones that are badly rusted at the rear lip.

Any ideas out there? thanks!

Wow, it is hard to believe a sedan trunk lid doesn't exist out there. I know the '67 is sort of a stepchild (although one of my favorites). Perhaps the "lowly" sedans just didn't last in the junk yards for parts picking today. I remember checking the Hollander Interchange and not finding any other GM brand that fit. Even if another fit, it would probably be equally difficult to find a good one too.

I am assuming your original is rusted, but is it unrepairable? Sometimes it comes down to that as the only option. Have you hunted around to see if anyone offers repair panels for the bottom/rear? Check under our Member Discounts (under AFFILIATES) and see if Classic-2-Current might have something.

I assume you've been combing Craig's List in your area also; sometimes they have something pop up. Also keep your name on the "find" board at Frank's Pontiac Parts and Indiana Pontiacs. It might be a long shot, but also check Kurt Kelsey Pontiac Parts. He has lots of stiff, perhaps an NOS lid sitting in the corner.

Just did a quick search of eBay and saw two '67 trunk lids for full-size. One looks size-wise to possibly be a 2-door hardtop one which won't work. But one is stated as being Grand Prix.

Unfortunately I don't "do" eBay so couldn't post a question. Do a search (1967 Pontiac trunk lid) and you should find it too.

I did some Craig's List scanning of major cities, but no luck.
