|
|
I just bought a 48 Pontiac with VIN number P8PB44430
What is the right ID for this car, and will a front fender with part number: 510468 fit this car?
Thanks
Found this from an erlier post about the same question:
According to the Hollander Interchange Manual, the 25 & 27's front fenders interchange with the 26 & 28's. However, they do note some differences with "Deluxe" though they don't state what that might be. Most likely holes for different trim pieces. _________________ |

THE FOLLOWING IS A COPY OF WHAT I SENT YOU IN A SEPARATE E-MAIL:
I do not have a parts book for those years, however, in the Hollander Interchange Manual it shows a "510468-9" for the 1948 6-25 (convertible, business & sport coupe, sedan coupe, 2-door sedan, 4-door 6-window, 25-Series) and for the 8-27 (convertible, business & sport coupe, sedan coupe, 2-door sedan, 4-door 6-window, 27-Series).
I do not know what the "-9" at the end means, and they do not specify right or left sides either. It seems that the part number will fit most 6-25 Series and 8- 27 Series. Perhaps the "-9" is for right or left side.
If you do a Google search you will find quite a few references to this number (510468). I do not see any breakdowns to a dash number for right or left. However they seem to support my findings for the 25- and 27-Series cars.
To find your Series, check the tag on the firewall. It looks like yours will be the 27-Series because of the "8" (8-cylinder) in your VIN. _________________ PontiacRegistry.com... building the single largest source of Pontiac information, services, and entertainment in the world! |

The 27-Series are the Torpedo-8 and the 28-Series are the Streamliner-8. _________________ PontiacRegistry.com... building the single largest source of Pontiac information, services, and entertainment in the world! |

Check the photos below. Note that the Streamliner is a much more "fastback" look, while the Torpedo has more of the old style "hump" to the trunk area. This is much more noticeable on the 2-door models.
Obviously your '48 is a Torpedo. Many people make the mistake of thinking a "torpedo" named car would be low and sleek- like a torpedo. However, it is actually the boxier of the two styles, as the "Streamliner' is the most "streamlined" one a style that began in 1941.
Do a Google images search and you will see many examples of some beautiful cars. _________________ PontiacRegistry.com... building the single largest source of Pontiac information, services, and entertainment in the world! |
