At
PontiacRegistry.com
we strive to build the largest source of Pontiac information available anywhere else and that includes Pontiac's rich racing heritage.
While there was Pontiac racing involvement in the very early days of production, that was way before auto racing became an organized activity.
An activity that was to grow to a huge sport and business.
Everything about Pontiac and racing was about to change when new Pontiac General Manager Semon “Bunky” Knudsen was appointed in July 1956.
He was the youngest general manager in Pontiac history, and he soon brought in such soon to become famous Pontiac names as Elliott “Pete” Estes
and John Z. DeLorean as Chief Engineer and Director of Advanced Engineering, respectively. With a crew such as that (and more) behind him, the famous
“Bunky” Knudsen's words of “Race on Sunday, Sell on Monday!”, became a battle cry of sorts that launched Pontiac into the forefront
of nearly every type of racing venue. A position that lasted many years, earning Pontiac a leading position in racing history.
Sadly, Pontiac's racing involvement was to end when it also ended. So it is now our job to make sure all of its exciting history is never lost or forgotten.
