To be honest ..... I do not know if the Whites pit Stop Firebird is Pontiac Powered but i believe it is a Big Chief ( 632 Inch i believe ) Dont qoute me on that until i find out for sure. Is your Poncho a 1/8 mile Bracket car? It leaves like one from the looks of it .

I have a pic of my Trans Am posted on this site here.

Yes, all 1/8th mile racing, except for when I go to Norwalk for the Tri-power Nationals.

I would be Trans am Crazy too but my wife would have me livin in them. Shes OK with not ever being able to park in the garage but she said when the Driveway is full and shes on the street ..... Im on the Street. There is 7 Cars at my house and 4 of them are mine. BUT you have a really nice collection of Classic Pontiacs there. Im jealous. Im kind of out of the muscle car era for now and focusing on the late forties Early fifties stuff. Probably a phase but its much more affordable these days. Everyone thinks there muscle car junk is worth a million dollars and i cant swallow paying mucho money for the same cars i was able to buy in highschool for $300.00. I still love the muscle car era of Pontiacs but im getting a little tired of people only fixing GTO's . They will send a tempest to the wrecking yard as a used parts car to rebuild a GTO. To me thats kinda sad and thats why you never see any Wagons or Tempests and occasionally a LeMans. Love the firebirds/Trans Ams though. Im glad to see that someone recognizes Pontiacs for more than a GTO. My Highschool story of my first Pontiac is posted in the forum under Post War Years. Here it is. http://www.pontiacregistry.com/members/viewtopic.php?t=84

Yes my first Pontiac was a GTO but no one wanted them then , They all wanted a 1970 Chevelle. That car was a real piece of crap but it would launch like a Rocket. The best burnout vehicle i ever owned. The next in line was a 1979 Trans Am ( 6.6 Litre ) Since you know your trans ams .... thats the olds motor and that car would do a burnout until you took your foot off the gas. Just thinkin about an old Trans Am makes the hair on my neck stand up. You must be in heaven with all those TA's. Have you ever run the Gold one in the 1/4 mile? If so what was the ET ? Im gonna take a Stab at it and say 10.23 - 10.30. Am i close?

Thanks for reading my ramblings!

It should have been or a little quicker.
I had it at Indy for the ET Bracket Finals awhile ago, ran 10.50 @118 MPH, on the rev limiter at 1000 foot.
Should have changed the rear gear for the 1/4 mile. Embarassed

John,

Very hard running Pontiac you have. I see you had your '73 dialed in at a 6.59.

What drivetrain are you running in the T/A? Block, Heads, Induction, Trans, rearend, gear? These are great looking cars. Too bad you don't see more at local drag strips. Are you running a transbrake or is it a stick shift car? It looks like it leaves very hard. 60-ft. times?

I am currently building a '74 T/A racecar. It was an original Admirality Blue with white vinyl roof 455 automatic car. Pretty much a basket case. I decided to save the car from doom and turn it in to a racecar.

I am building the chassis as we speak. It is a S&W frame and roll cage kit. We ditched the original subframe in favor of a lighter frontend. 12-point cage, Wildwood spindles, 4-wheel Wildwood disc brakes, Narrowed 9" rearend (my first rearend I built and I have narrowed), Turbo 400 transmission and two possible engines-a '73 455 with ported 7F6 H.O. heads or a 540 cubic inch Indian Adventures aluminum motor with Wenzler Guts ram intake and Ron's fuel injection flying toilet. The '73 455 has been ran in my street car and a '65 Tempest bracket car. In the 2800lb Tempest it ran a best of 10.28 @ 128m.p.h. in the 1/4-mile. In my 4000lb street car with a milder camshaft, it has ran a best of 7.60 @ 90m.p.h. in the 1/8-mile.

Hopefully, we will get the T/A down to around 2600lb or lighter. It will include 74' T/A fiberglass frontend, doors, trunk lid(coming from Canada) with lexan windows.

The Gold car is actually a 1970 Formula. Bought it in 1974.

I put a 74 SD 455 engine in it. With the TH400. Used the factory 12 bolt rear with 4.88 gears. Went 7 flat in 1/8th mile basically stock with a Torker intake with 800 Holley, 10" converter headers.

I eventually narrowed the rear frame using the SW kit, tied it to the front subframe, still stock, and narrowed the rear end with spool/4.88 gear, using a ladder bar set-up with CE coil over shocks/springs.
It has a 8 point rollcage.
All steel except hood, original glass, weighs 3280 lbs without me.
I put a roller cam in, Wentzler tunnel ram with the same carb, 8" converter, TH400 with a tranny brake.
It has ran a 6.49 quickest in the 1/8th.

1.38 - 60'
6.39 - 1/8th
103 MPH - 1/8th

I haven't drove it for a few years though. Embarassed
I originally put the engine in my dragster and race it now.
I plan on getting it out this year, hopefully. Very Happy

My 74T/A is an original SD455 car. I pulled the engine for safe keeping about two years ago. With minor modifications on the SD engine, the heavy '74 ran 12.51 @110 in the 1/4-mile.

1.38 60-ft. is hard charging. Great looking car. Are you running the original #16 heads? What kind of headers are you running?

Are you planning to attend the Norwalk Pontiac event this year?

Nice chatting with you.

I'll be there, but with my dragster.
It has a 463 with Edelbrock heads now and Powerglide.
