I am seeking articals, reference materials and general advice on swapping in a 700R Transmission into a '65 Bonneville. Right now it has the stock 389/T400, but I am considering a swap to a 455. Any assitance/advice is welcome.
Thanks,

There are many articles out on the internet on how to do the swap. It isn't hard, technically speaking. You'll have to fabricate the shift mechanism, have a custom driveshaft made and fabricate a transmission mount.
Do keep in mind the transmission isn't designed to live behind a 455 and might not be able to withstand the torque. |

Thanks. I share the concern about the tranny holding up to the torque of the 455, but I do not want to go to a corporate small block, either. Another alternative I'm considering is an aftermarket OD unit. I am restofying the old bonnie 4 dr back from parts car status to hopefully a reliable and practical daily driver with updated powertrain and disc brakes.

Something like a Gear vendor OD unit (sits behind the TH-400) is very strong.
But, it's also very expensive.
I would just keep the TH-400 and put in a hugh rear end, like a 2.87. The engine will have enough torque to get you going, but you won't win any drag races. |

Some of those 65's came through with a 2:41 rear and moved the car fine and got decent gas milage. If you are just going to drve the car, it may be OK the way it is. |

You won't win any drag races, but you can cruise OK. Our 1964 Bonneville has a hydramatic with 2.87 rear end (303 HP 389) and she does just fine. |
