I got a new isolation relay from a GM dealer, but when I put my ohm meter on it, the external contacts are the same as the actuator relay.
on the schematic that I have when the isolation relay is in the closed position, power comes from the headlight switch position in off. the power goes into external con.3 and through internal con.4&5.
when I open the system by putting my headlight switch to on, power no longer goes to external con.3, but goes into external con.2 through the relay coil then through internal con.1 which is ground (con.1&2 are always connected). when the coil becomes energized the internal contacts move from internal con.5 to internal con.6 and from internal con.4 to internal con.2 which has a diode between internal con2&4. power still goes through internal con.1 but in addition also goes through internal con.6
on the actuator relay, in the closed position power flows into external con.5 then through internal con.1 which is the ground. when the relay goes into its open position, power no longer goes into external con.5, but goes into external con.2 which then goes through the relay coil then through internal con.1 (con.1&2 are always connected). when the coil becomes energized the internal contacts move. internal con.1 is now connected to internal con.6&2, internal con.3 is connected to internal con.5. power now flows into external con.3 (which is connected to a fusible link that is hot at all times) through internal con.5 and power returns into external con.6 through internal con.1 which is still ground. in the closed position con.3&4 have continuity.
so my question(s) is, has GM changed the internal workings of the isolation relay to where I would have to splice my external wires at con.4&5 into con.4??? or did they (GM dealer) give me the wrong part, cause they said they didn't. the part# that is on the new isolation relay is 10031018 then there's a # right below that is 6257
