Hi, from your PontiacRegistry paint advisor. I decided to go through my collection and start posting things for all to see. Now you will have a database to access Pontiac colors from 1926 to the present.
The attached paint chart shows all 1965 Pontiac exterior colors that were available at the time of printing. Double clicking on the photo will englarge it for easy viewing. |

I have a 1965 GP and it is red the color was called Montego Red. I believe it was an optional color. I have also seen this color on a 1965 GTO an the owner said it was the origonal color. _________________ |

Some dealerships may have painted cars specific colors for clients that would not show up on the corporate offerings. Also, in some instances, customers could order special colors at an additional cost from GM that may have been offered by a different GM division, however nowhere in my information have I seen a reference to the color name you mentioned.
If you can give me the paint code off of your data plate from your car, that would enable me to get you the information you need. |

I checked all the GM paperwork, as well as the Dupont/RM/ACME and Ditzler paperwork, paint charts, service bulletins etc., and I find no reference to a " Montego" Red. for 65, or 66.
I believe that people have just mispronounced the "Montero" Red name, or misread the name somewhere, and because Montego is a well known name due to Mercury cars, etc, then that name stuck. |
