Yes I have purchased the '62. The car is really solid. I went through everything that had been dissassembled. It is all there. This will make a great project car.
It will be a while before I get around to it. I am currently building a '74 drag car with my father. I have some photos of it posted in my personal photo gallery on this site. I already have a engine lined up for it. It is a 462 I am running in my '74 street car. It runs 7.60's in the 1/8-mile and 11.80's in the 1/4-mile. The '74 is pretty much stock as far as suspension other than adding 3:73 gears.
Thanks,
Jeff |

Are any members going to attend either the Arkansas City, Kansas "Pontiac Uprising" event or the Sikeston, Missouri "Trail Of Tears Rendezvous" event in 2007?
I hope to be at both of these great events. If we do not support them, they will not be successful.
Thanks,
Jeff |

Spoke to Larry Crider this past Thursday. He stopped by on his trip from out east at my work. Sounds like the track at Tulsa is highly renovated and a great facility. The owners placed over 7-million dollars in the facility.
Larry is a super guy with a passion for Pontiacs. I wish him the best of luck at the POCI drag racing event. Too bad he probably will not get to run his sharp '58 Chieftan. The heavy Poncho runs mid 11's at around 118m.p.h. in the 1/4-mile.
Any members going to go to the convention and are any members going to participate in the drag race? I think it will be a lot of fun.

Jeff, you know I'll be at sikeston, probably just show the gray car this year, and race the two blue cars. Was kind of crazy with my brother and I trying to race the 3 cars. _________________ Thomas Horn

Do you attend very many car show events? I have one I started seven years ago. It is held in Bourbon, right off of interstate I-44. Last year I had 135 cars, trucks and motorcycles registered. More than that were at the event. Four of the six shows have had over 100 participants.
It is a free show. I have sponsors pick up the cost of the trophies and awards. Great music and food too. I manage the local retail store, Town & Country Supermarket, so the food is very reasonable too.
We generally have a fairly good showing of Pontiacs. Don't usually see that many at local shows. These are the Pontiacs at the show last year:
1963 A/FX Tempest ( Selden Ruwwe's)
1963 tube chassis Tempest
1965 Tempest ( Scott Barton) #2 last year in the Frantic Four at Sikeston
6,500 original mile 1978 400 Trans-Am
12,000 original mile 1976 455 4-speed T/A
1965 Bonneville (beautiful car)
20,000 original mile 1980 T/A
my 1974 SD-455 T/A and 30th anniversary T/A
three new GTO's
1969 GTO
1987 T/A
20th anniversary T/A
I would love to have more Pontiacs at the show. I am trying to get the ARCH POCI chapter to bring out some of their rides. Wanted the St. Louis Fiero club to get involved too. I like showing the locals what Pontiacs are all about. Not too many local bracket racers (Ford, Chevrolet, Mopar) have a car that will run like my friend, Scott's, '65 Tempest. Ran 5.90's at over 115 at Sikeston. These were the first passes on the new engine my dad built. There is more in it.
Let some people know about the show. Heck, I even have a class for racecars. It is in mid-August every year. It is the week after Norwalk this year. They bumped Norwalk up one week.
Saturday, August 18th - 12noon to 5:30p.m. Rain date is Sunday the 19th.
I will probably see you guys at Sikeston soon. Scott and I are going to bring the car down to do some testing.
Thanks,
Jeff |

let me know when you plan on coming to sikeston, i'd like to come down and watch, hell might even have to do some testing of my own. I've only been on a track twice this year. Once at I57 and once at sikeston (got rained out) for test and tune. Sikeston has only gotten 2 races in so far this year. _________________ Thomas Horn

We will probably be going to Sikeston in the next week or so to test Scott's '65. We need to get things ready for Norwalk. We plan to bring a couple of cars this year.
I will let you know when we plan to go to the track. Hope to see you guys in Norwalk this year.
We had good luck at the Tulsa POCI drags. Our good friend Charley from Sullivan took top honors in the chief class. He pilots a '66 GTO sponsored by Modern Garage.
See ya later.
Thanks,
Jeff |

I plan on attending for the first time with my newly purchased 63 Pontiac Grand Prix from CA. It is Nocturne Blue with a Black Interior and 8 lug Aluminum wheels. It will have Indiana plate on rear and the original 63 CA black and gold tag on the front. Looking forward to my first visit and finding some specific 63 Pontiac information that is not in the shop manual. Also plan on visiting with Arnie Beswick as I talked to him in Pomona and had him sign a program for me "To Arnie from Arnie". I used to live in Akron, OH. and visited Arlen Vanke's Speed Shop on a regular basis, when Arlen used to call me Arnie Beswick everytime I walked in, used to be a regular joke.
I used to be very familiar with Knafel Pontiac's "Tin Indians" when Arlen was drag racing for Bill Knafe, as I was the Pontiac Rep. that called on Knafel back then. O the good old times when Pontiac's were hot into drag racing.

Look forward to meeting you and checking out your '63. I have always admired the early 60's Pontiacs. My father raced a fleet of Super Duty Pontiacs in Missouri. They included two '62 aluminum equipped Catalina hardtops, one aluminum equipped sedan '62 and an aluminum equipped '63 Tempest.
Although I am in my early 30's and did not live in this era, I believe they are some of the best Pontiacs ever produced.
Hope to see other club members at Norwalk. This is a great event.

Nice meeting you and your family. It is easy to tell Pontiacs run in your families blood just like mine.
You guys have a very nice family.
So what did you think of the race? I think Larry has done a remarkable job considering this was only his second event. Hope he does it again next year. I would love to try and help him out with the car show. I have ran a small local show in my hometown for 7 years. We have had as many as 135 cars at the event.
My car fell off of its normal performance. Still ran very consistent though. I was not 60 footing like I usually do. I think this is where I was losing E.T. Still ran 7.80's at 90m.p.h.
Hope to see you guys around at some other Pontiac events. Maybe next time we will have a little more time to visit.
Again, nice meeting you. |

I think he did a great job.
I'd say if he can get the word out more, they'll come.
We'll try and make it again next year. Hopefully get some more people to come also.
My car ran good for the air I think. _________________ http://www.wallaceracing.com/
