floor pans

floor pans
hi folks,
just joined. just draged home a '62 pontiac paresienne ragtop the floor pans looked good from the bottom but when i steped in, oh well you get the picture. they were rotted from the inside out. i seem to remember ,61, 62 being sister cars( same basic car). here in canuckville pontiacs used the same drive train and frame. so my question is this. did 61-62 pontiacs and chev's use the same floor pan configuration ?

I do not believe that you will find the Chevrolet body portions the same as the Pontiac. While the Pontiac used the Chev drivetrain, I am quite positive that the body (including pans) is all Pontiac. That being said, there still might be similarities, but no more so than between a Pontiac and Chevrolet anywhere. You will need to look for a Pontiac pan section if you plan to replace it.

Larry is correct. The frame and floor section are different between the Pontiac's and Chevy's. You'll also be hard pressed to find any reproduction for that car also.

Here is my suggestion: Find a 4 door car, either '61 or '62. The floor pans trunk pans and much of the sheetmetal will be the same, except, of course, the exterior. A sawsall will do wonders for cutting out the sheetmetal you'll need, but keep in mind that you want to cut out more than what you need for the replacement.

I'm the paint and body tech advisor. If you email me, I'll "walk" you through what you need to do to get the floor pan replaced and have it turn out very nice.

BTW, my '64 convertible was the same way. From under the car, the pans had little to no PITTING, let alone rust, but it rusted from the inside out.

Ames Performance Enginering does offer replacement rear pans for the 61-64 B Body Pontiac.
