One of our members in Chile asked me if I knew what this part on his '65 Grans Prix is. I have drawn a blank. It sure looks like an add-on item, and perhaps something to do with air or vacuum, judging by what looks like a filter if some sort (round black thing with the holes).
The bolts with the lock nuts might be for adjusting something. We can only see one inlet/outlet; probably another too.

I am not 100% sure, but judging on the ports that are blocked by bolts, etc., I would say it is very old style diaphragm that worked off of the vacuum while the engine was running and the blocked ports are for front air shocks on this car. I'd like to know where the controls are inside and also where the air tank that should have been optional, is at. Probably and most likely been pitched. This picture shows the vacuum port sticking out straight at the engine, where the rubber tube would have been attached and back to the engine or intake port, then where the two bolts are stuck into the ports at left and right sides of the picture. Would have been an extra port for vacuum at rear base end of carb, or, a separate intake port.
Top bolt goes to passenger side air shock and right side one goes to driver's side air shock. GM later came up with a larger sized, metal encased vacuum supply that the vacuum drove a small nylon surface cam that rocked back and forth with the help of a rolled spring. It did that and then also at the same time, it pumped pressure into a large air tank so that the air shocks could be easily lowered and the raised again. Kind of odd why GM did this as most times the vacuum and pressure lines ran to the pump and then to the tank and the controls inside the car, but, the air shock tubes ran to the rear of the car used on hauling Trailers and car/truck carriers.
