It’s always great news when a scarce original part for our favorite muscle cars becomes available again, especially when no other reproductions have been available, and used originals are getting hard to find.
Auto Metal Direct (AMD) recently announced new rear frame crossmembers for 1964-67 and 1968-72 GM A-body cars, including Chevelle, GTO/LeMans, Skylark/GS, and Cutlass/442. The original GM rear parts were fairly lightweight steel to begin with, and whenever an A-body was bumped in the rear, or when someone tied a cable or chain around that rear crossmember for pulling or towing, it quickly bent out of shape. Today it has become nearly impossible to find one in a salvage yard or swap meet that isn’t bent or badly rusted. And if you look under the rear bumper of most A-body cars at your local cruise-in, you’ll find this piece is often damaged.
Two different designs are offered by AMD, in order to fit the 1964-67 and the 1968-72 body styles properly. Both are licensed reproductions under the official GM Restoration Parts licensing program.
Call or write for full details, or visit the AMD website online at www.autometaldirect.com.
For 1964-67, ask for part #8703464, and for 1968-72, use part #8703468. _________________ PontiacRegistry.com... building the single largest source of Pontiac information, services, and entertainment in the world! |
