|
|
Going to go look at car tomorrow. The oil pan on it now is rusted and needs replaced
What choices do I have? Will any pan fit, or does it have to be for a big body car of that year, or...?
I would just as soon replace this one, although patching might be a short term option.
Getting an aftermarket one would also be an option, but I want to get the car up and running before spending money on shiny stuff.
Thanks,
Russ |

I checked a big parts book I have from the early '60s, and can't believe that they show an oil pan (#541624) for the '63 Pontiacs "all exc. 421 & HO"). However, that same part number doesn't appear for the '61-62 or the '64.
I have a hard time believing the oil pan would have been unique to only that year, but I've seen stranger things.
Contact Steve at Indiana Pontias (66gtd@comcast.net) and ask him about it. He specialized in the '60s full-size Pontiacs. He gives our members a nice discount too.

Thanks, I'll drop him a note.
Speaking of discounts, how do we use the coupons here? Do we have to call the order in? Tried to use one tonight online and it came up invalid.
Thanks,

Which discounts are you referring to? The only coupon ones I know that we post are the Harbor Freight ones, and ours is just a direct link to their own page of coupons. Rock Auto has a code they give us and update as needed. Please let me know so I can correct any glitch.
The discounts we receive from our great suppliers are simply by telling them that you are a member of PontiacRegistry.com. If they have any questions, they just ask me; but so far we do not know of anyone abusing the opportunity of asking for a discount when they were not actually a member. _________________ PontiacRegistry.com... building the single largest source of Pontiac information, services, and entertainment in the world! |

OK, I thought I was doing something wrong. When I click on one of the sponser's ads on the home page here, it takes me to a page on the pontiacregistry site that gives a description of what they sell/do, what the discount is, a link to their website, and a button that says something like "click for coupon". When I do that, it gives a coupon for that specific sponser with my email and user name and the date, along with a coupon code. I thought that was what we were supposed to be using to get the discount.
I generally never call to place an order if I can do it online, just my preference. If I don't get to use the discount because of that it isn't a big deal, that isn't why I am here anyway.
Thanks,

Here is what I meant. Btw, this wasn't the one, just a random one. Funny thing is I found that they are in my new home town.
I bolded the reference to the coupon button, the actaul button didn't copy over.
This one does mention calling to get the discount, althought it also says to print the coupon. The one I bought from last night didn't have the call for discount statement.
Like I said, not a big deal to me. It was just more frustrating then anything trying to figure out why the coupon wasn't working.

well, it doesn't really matter now anyway. Just called the seller to setup a time to go look at the Bonneville and someone just bought it today and it is gone.
My wife is going to kill me for buying the shop manual for it before I had the car.
This is one of the times I wish I drank.

well, maybe this is for the best. the seller with the 70 Lemans just lowered the price back to $2900. I am going to go see it either Thursday or Friday depending on when the bank releases the funds we just deposited. supposed to be available on Thursday, but I am not betting on that.
So maybe I will be hanging out on the GTO/Lemans page.

I realize it gets corn-fusing sometimes, but the printable coupon is really just in case one of our suppliers wishes proof of current membership. A non-member would not be able to access or print out a coupon.
I do not know of a supplier who has set up any coupon log-in on their site for us. It wouldn't work anyway as the number generated is random. The best advise is to call the supplier and speak with them. That way you can even get all the information and ask any questions.
Now, about that '63 Bonneville. You may have missed that one, but think of it as an opportunity to possibly find something even better... an opportunity you would not have had otherwise.
As for that '63 manual. Is it a Pontiac manual (printed by Pontiac)? If the price is right, I need one for our On-Line Reference Library project. I have the '64 Suppliment Manual, but not the actual '63 one. _________________ PontiacRegistry.com... building the single largest source of Pontiac information, services, and entertainment in the world! |

Thanks for clearing it up. Like I said, I prefer not to call, but that is my loss I guess.
The 63 manual is the Pontiac manual, but it is on a cd. Yes, I splurged and spent a bit more to get it over the old paper version. sigh. I don't know if you would legally be able to use it or not, but if so let me know.

No, I cannot use someone else's work. We have an agreement with General Motors allowing us to reproduce their manuals (for which we do pay). _________________ PontiacRegistry.com... building the single largest source of Pontiac information, services, and entertainment in the world! |
