1969 Firebird

PostPosted: Sat May 23, 2009 5:43 pm    Post subject: Firebirds - The red headed step child... Reply with quote

Hey All, I'm new to the site and I love it!

I'm kinda new to the classic car scene, I've only been doing it for about 6 years now. My first "Baby" was an old beet up primer and bondo 67 Bird. I've always been told "Those Firebirds don't bring the money like the Camaro's".....My question is why???????

I've been through about 10 cars in the last 6 years but have never really been satisfied with the "others". I've had 3 first camaros (67, 68, 69), 1 '73 charger, '74 duster, '66 chevelle, '66 Nova, '68 firebird and finally my '69 firebird 400. The three that stand out are my Birds. To me they are more stylish, they handle better, run better, have better interior options and are just flat out better. I guess I'm a Poncho head and didn't know it till now.

WHY are they always in the shadow of the Camaro??????

Anyway, I guess that's enough brand beating, I'm just a little tired of people telling me that they can't beleive I'm wasting all that money on a Firebird....Whatever!!!!!! I guess in the end it's all about what you like.

My current car is a Windward blue 69 Firebird 400/330hp auto A/C car with deluxe interior. I'm almost finished with the complete restoration and needless to say, I love it.

Love the site,
Dale

Welcome to PontiacRegistry.com, Dale. From the sounds of your enthusiasm, you are exactly what the Pontiac hobby needs. That said, though, you are definately not alone. Pontiac lovers are a strong bunch and enthusiastic promoters of their favorite car.

About the "lesser" standing of the Firebird compared to Camaros, that is a common attitude-- from Bow Tie guys. If you watch auction prices you will see that good quality F'Birds and Camaros are about equal. Granted there are more Camaros out there, so they may appear to be heads above Firebirds, but not really in value, and certainly not in desirability.

Now, from a hobby standpoint, I have always advocated the numbers equals strenght point of view. The Ford and Chevrolet hobbyplace has numbers far above all other brand clubs combined. Therefore, it is imperative that all Pontiac hobbyists support their hobby. At PontiacrRegistry.com we are working to build the single largest source of Pontiac information, services, and entertainment in the world just for that reason-- to make the Pontiac hobbyplace bigger and stronger.

As the Pontiac hobbyplace grows, so will the cars' values. Simple economics. And while we may not al lbe in the Pontiac hobby to just see our investment grow, consider that the stronger it grows, the more parts will be reproduced too.

There are lots of pluses for helping to grow the Pontiac hobby. But as you mentioned too, your love for this particular car is Number 1. Consider everything else just a big fat bonus.

Keep in touch.

Thanks,
Larry

1974 Super Duty TransAm

Chevrolet has generally been at the top of the production number ranks over all other GM vehicles for years. Most of the time, they just simply made more of them.

To me, the Firebird is a far superior car compared to the Camaro. From styling, performance and handling, the Firebird is the winner.

You should check out my friends 1969 Firebird in the online magazine section of the site. It is a beautiful rust free Arizona car.

I am interested in all Firebirds, but especially enjoy the 1974 models. Again, there is no comparison between a 1974 Camaro and a 1974 Bird. My car is an original Super Duty too. The Camaro in 1974 did not stand a chance against the torque and power of the SD-455.

Glad to hear you like the site so far. Larry does a great job posting features, tech articles and general info.

Love to see some pictures of your '69.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I posted a pic of my bird in the photo gallery but haven't quite figured out how to put more than one. I'll keep you guys updated on the progress.
