Question for anyone who knows ?? I have a 1957 Pontiac Starchief 3 speed manual. I need to get a yoke that is in good condition.
Is there any reason that a 55,56 or 57 Pontiac yoke would be different. In other words if you are in need of a used yoke in good condition for a 1957 would it make any difference if it came out of a 1955 Pontiac ??

Thanks

Greg Allison

Do you know the part number of the yoke? By the way, a manual transmission Star Chief is RARE! What body style is it?

Unless someone knows that odd bit of information like they accidently discovered a '63 Ford Galaxie 6-cylinder std. trans yoke is the same, the Hollander Interchange shows the '57 standard transmission to be pretty much a stand-alone in the swap world.
It shows the 1957 standard transmission Chieftain, Super Chief, and Star Chief Station Wagon as being the same. While they don't make any mention of length, that wouldn't matter anyway since you are only interested in the yoke.
Be sure to let us know what you find out during this search.

Larry, My Auto Interchange SYstem manual says that the 1956 and 1957 3 speed manual basic transmission are the same.

I don't know what to say. The Hollander Interchange lists nothing as interchangeable with the '57 Star Chief 3-speed manual. In double checking I did, however, find an error in my earlier response. Scratch the station wagon from the list as working; my error.
Even checking the '56 in hopes of it saying something about the '57 comes up blank. It shows '56 as only interchanging with '56.
If nothing else, this sure makes a point for moving slowly and hopefully getting an opportunity for visual inspections.
Perhaps there's form early-late things going on here. We need some more people to weigh in on this. Anybody think of checking with someone like Kurt Kelsey? Boy if anyone would know.....

I just got out my parts book CD and the 1956 and 1957 trannys are the same. 1955 was different.

I'm going to bet that the parts book is the best final answer!
Sometimes Hollander isn't always the final answer. Kind of a "Close, but no cigar!" situation.
Thanks for sticking with this investigation. It would have been nice to have been able to widen the search field a bit more, but '56 also is better than nothing.
