I heard from a reliable source that it was in the mail last week. I'll call POCI world headquarters and see what they know about it. It was always in my hand by the 22nd of the month.

I still have not yet received the "new and improved" Smoke Signals magazine.

Does anyone know what is going on?

Did POCI get rid of their logo because it wasn't on the new Smoke Signals?

You may want to call POCI and let them know. I had done my renewal online with POCI and noticed the old date on my last copy. I called POCI and they had no record of the renewal, because the renewal was done before the change and the new group had no records on my transaction. They took my info and updated everything very quickly, with no further problems!

Thanks! I received my copy today. Looks very similar to the High Performance Pontiac or Pontiac Enthusiasts magazine, I can't remember which one but it looks familar.

I noticed a strong focus on Racing? Is POCI changing to a race oriented club? I remember it to be for the "preservation and restoration" of Pontiacs, Oaklands and GMC.

wmccullen: The reason your date showed on your mailing label as old (past due, expired, etc.) was because the August issue was mailed with an OLD mailing list and not curent data. The list used was probably about 3-4 months old (gotten from the mailing of perhaps the March or April magazine). Lots of people probably did not receive their magazine, and many people who shouldn't have received one probably did. All POCI data was sent to them current as of the last day I worked for them (June 26, 2006).
Just thought you should know.

Just as a side note, in 23 years I never missed or was late with a magazine. When I took over the club office I had everything running in two weeks, and nobody missed anything.

Larry - Its good to hear from you - Its been a long time! I received only one issue of Smoke Signals since July? From what I've read on other sites, the new editor is doing good which is great for POCI and I wish him luck.

I see though that he has had a hard time putting together artwork. My guess is that a pro. design program like Photoshop would be all that is needed? From what I understand, the new editor was given the job about 9 months ago, so why all the delays?

I also look forward to a new and improved POCI, especially at the chapter level, to me, it has been allowed to grow stale the last few years.

Larry, just to let you know, through your site, I have had tremendous help finding parts to help restore my '64 2+2.

My opinion of Smoke Signals is not favorable, and I have forwarded my criticisms to the editor. The artwork is not great. The text contains too many typos. The content contains too many articles on racing; and the actual content (of the most recent issue) had approximately 60% advertising vs. 40% articles. I didn't count the classified ads as advertising.

I'm also tired of hearing about how difficult it has been for them. They took over the magazine so produce a good product and stop complaining. Do they really think that the membership wants to read about their problems? We don't. It is almost as if they know the magazine isn't as good as it should be and are throwing out excuses for their lack of ability.

Due to a variety of reasons, my only real connection with POCI was Smoke Signals. I don't think that POCI (as well as other car clubs) understands how important it is to produce a high quality newletter/magazine. I have let my membership to POCI lapse.

Smoke Signals? Latest issue? Mine is about 3 weeks late... again! Gee... I hope that "rare" part is still available when I finally get my issue.

Here it is more than half way through the month of March and I still have not received my March issue of Smoke Signals. Pretty disappointing. If it were not for my local chapter and the events I like to participate in that are coming up, I would not have renewed with POCI.
