G8- "American Muscle"?

Did anyone see the Fox and Friends Saturday morning show today? They have a car test segment and today's was of the Pontiac G8 GT.

They showed it running through its paces in a figure-8 track. It looked great, and they were very well impressed, especially for the price.

Interestingly, it has a fuel management system that does the old 4-6-8 routine like the old Cadillacs did in the late '70s. Only the new computer control systems won't drop you from V8 to a 4-cylinder at the top of a freeway entrance ramp as you are charging to merge into 70-80mph traffic. And it also won't switch to a V8 from a 4 as you inch into the garage around the bicycles and ladders. They work well now, and the reporter said he was reading 30mpg on the way to the test track on the X-way at 70mph.... pretty good.

The funniest thng was that he said "the G8 is pure American muscle... well as much as it can be with an engine made in Mexico and a car built in Australia."

I don't know. I believe in a "world market" but not at the cost of losing our own country in the process. Did you see GM's earning (or rather lack of earning) figures for this recent quarter? They say that they have enough cash to last another year at this rate... then what? Can they trun things around in a year... they can't even get a design to market in less than five years and now they have only a year to save their entire company? Interesting times ahead.....
