Just curious if any members have ever seen the road test involving a 1973 Grand Am 4-dr that had a SD-455 installed in it. I am going to try and locate the magazine in a die-hard Pontiac enthusiast owned by Ben Ruwwe.
Maybe another member recalls this article.
There is another road test that included a SD-455 that was installed in a 1973 GTO. It won the "car of the year" in that publication, although it was never produced. I believe that Larry has this article in his possession.
Can you imagine if the SD-455 would have been installed in a 4-dr production car. Talk about a sleeper. |

I think Jeff's reference to a "sleeper" is actually ME!
He's right, I do have the article he sent on the '73 GTO. Jeff has contributed so much great material in the form of his event coerage and articles, ads, old magazine articles, etc., I'm behind in getting them to you all (Southern talk!).
I haven't beeen sleeping though... I wish. It's been a busy time here working on some of the new projects, like getting the manual reference library permissions from GM.
I'll get the '73 GTO article to the top of the list.
Thanks for the kick in the behind! |

I will get the other article for you to Larry. I am getting behind on plenty of stuff too. I have been promising the 4-dr SD-455 article for a while.
I will get it from Ben and scan to you.
Heck, I still plan on visiting some junk yards, old drag strips, etc. I have not done any of it yet. Sullivan "Thunder Valley Raceway" will be my first stop. Next will be the old Pacific Raceway. My wifes best friend lives literally right off the old track. This is her street. I told my wife we were moving to Pacific and I was trading houses with her friend.
See you in a few weeks Larry. |

No hurry on the 4-door article.... although I bet it's neat!
A friend who lives by an old track? About as neat as a lady we met this weekend who owns a scrap iron yard.... where were those type of gals when I was lookin"? Kidding, wouldn't trade. But it sure would be easier explaining our facinations with old junk and stuff!
Thanks,
Larry |

My wife had no clue it was an old drag strip. I rode with her to her friend Cindy's one day. It is off the beaten path a little ways (Outside Pacific, MO in a small town called Catawissa).
When my wife came around a slight curve of a badly neglected street, it turned in to a big straight strip. I immediatley knew it was an old drag strip! Cindy lives right at the beginning of the old track. In fact, I believe she has the only home built directly off the track. All the other homes are on side streets that were added.
Racing legends such as Arnie Beswick, Dick Harrell, etc. used to matchrace at this facility.
I will get some pictures snapped of it. I think my friend Ben has some nostalgia window stickers (winner) from the track. |
