I have a 62 Cat with a gas leak between the tank and filler. I have been told it has a rubber seal then I was told it is soldered. How is this repairable and if it is a seal where can I obtain one? Thanks _________________ |

While people have soldered these as a fix, be certain only a qualified tank repair shop does it.... even they blow up sometimes.
However, the rubber allows some flexibility in the joint, as solder can crack.
The main concern here however is finding a rubber seal that is not going to deteriorate when in contact with the fuel, especially with the new gas that likes to eat up old rubber. Some rubber if it contains a lot of silicone product becomes like jelly, and if used in fuel systems can get into fuel lines, etc..... learned that one the hard way about 15 miles from home on a test drive!
To be safe go to a hydraulic repair shop or tank repair shop and ask them for a rubber seal of the correct durometer (sp?) for modern fuel. |

I found a O-ring chart on the internet and after measuring determined that a #328 O-ring will work. A local industrial supply house ordered one that is compatable with modern fuel an has worked well so far.
thanks for the help _________________ |
