Pinks All Out is coming to Gateway in STL the end of June. Registration was last night, and was sold out in 2 hours or less.

Anyone from the board get it?

I know of 5 local Ponchos including myself.

Call me a skeptic, but with all the "reality" type shows that seem anything but "real", I can't help buy wonder what all goes on behind the scenes.

Like, do they "really" give up their car with perhaps 10s of thousands of dollars invested just to get a chance to be on TV? Are builder shops behind a lot of this and write it off as advertising expenses? Are there deals behind the scenes to in some way compensate the loser for their loss?

As far as the organizer/creator doing a high energy car show and not really being a car guy at all...... gee, do you think like Steve Martin said in "The Jerk"... "I get it. It's a money thing!" Nah!!!

My old Granny used to say "Don't believe anything you hear, and only half of what you see." Perhaps this applies here.

There has been a little bit of a change in the format for some of these pink episodes.

These races have been more or less bracket competitions in which the guys can win money and then bet this money against other competitiors. If the cars run off their e.t. category they were placed in, they are disqualified. Keeps people honest and does not allow sandbagging.

The original episodes aired on TV sucked in my opinion. My nephews told me about the program, so I had to check it out for myself. It seemed sooooooooooooo fake. Who in their right mind would bet their car in a drag race? Spotting cars, using nitrous, not using nitrous, etc. - it all seemed a little ridiculous to me.

Heads up racing in e.t. categories is a lot more enjoyable to watch. The races are close. Winning money for rounds made is much better. Betting your car? Come on!!!!!

Anyway, good luck to the Pontiac guys at Gateway. Hope they beat up the competition.

Cars will be mid 10s and quicker that I know are going and are Pontiacs.

I'd say the top 16 picked for the all out at Gateway will be anywhere from mid 10s and quicker.

Have never heard of anything discussed for fuel costs...

Yes, they really give up their car. I personally know people who have went on Pinks and brought cars other than their own back home. It is REAL! If you Lose the Race, You Lose Your Ride!

Do you guys like the glide set up in the T/A? I planned on running a glide in the new T/A racecar I am building. I have heard about an equal amount of pros and cons on the set up.

I know they are very expensive. Did it help E.T.s any?

I was very weary of using a glide at first, didn't understand how it wouldn't just over-rev the motor with only 2 gears...but it doesn't.
Last year with the TH400 we would cross the 1/8th at 6-6100, I was shifting at 6300-6400.
This year with the glide it crosses at 6200-6300, shift at 6300.
Best time 1/8th mile with TH400 was 6.65, best time so far with the glide is 6.51.
We did go to a bigger cam (changed from 625 lift to 650), installed an edelbrock gear drive, also installed a vac. pump from Butler.
Still using the same gears we had with the TH400 (4.11), also still using the same converter as last year. Just had it freshened up over the winter.
Car has been deadly consistant thus far in the season.

The glide we bought from Coan set up with 1.80 straight cut gears, and a Pro Brake, $1995.00. I am very satisfied with it.

What brand converter are you using and what is the stall?

Sounds like the glide is working good for you guys. Over a tenth is a good gain. I know the vac. pump is worth some horsepower. I really need to get Scott to run one on his '65. Good investment if you ask me.

I didn't think I'd like the glide at all...man was I wrong.
The vac pump is definately worth it to have as well. Should have had it on there when we first built the motor.

Have you got the T/A running any harder? I was very impressed with the way it ran at Sikeston a few weeks ago. Sounds good too!!

You guys got your suspension working good from what I can see. The car goes straighter than an arrow. Seems like most of the heavy T/A's go straight.

There are a few "Chebbie" guys from Sullivan that are competing. I told them to be on the look out for a big T/A that could smoke them. One guys Chevy II runs in the mid to low 12's and the other guys Chevelle runs in the high 12's.

Are you testing your car at Sikeston this weekend?
