Does anyone know how to take the squirrel cage off the blower motor shaft? I have a new blower motor and can't figure out how to get the two apart. Thanks. |

If I remember correctly, there is a set screw (allen head) in the shaft of the squirrel cage. You kind of have to fish the allen wrench in between the ribs.

Not correct. There isn't a set screw on the shaft. I finally got it off, but not after ruining an already bad motor. When I whacked it with a hammer to try and get it loose, I apparently rammed the shaft into the motor and it ended up being VERY hard to turn. So what I did was to grind a little off the end of the shaft to make sure it would fit thru the squirrel cage, sprayed some WD40 on it and let it soak for a few hours. Then I tapped on the shaft LIGHTLY with a hammer and sprayed it with another dose of WD. Let that soak for a few hours. I was then able to move the squirrel cage back and forth and it popped off. I hope this will help anyone out there who may have this problem. |

Are you saying that there is nothing securing the squirrel cage to the shaft other than a snug fit?
Then to remove from shaft, support the hub of the squirrel cage and carefully punch end of shaft through? If so, as you experienced, a little "clean-up" on the end of the shaft and lots of WD40 sounds like a good idea.
How snug of a fit is the cage going to be on the new motor shaft? I'm guessing that is going to be a tricky installation while being extra careful with the new motor ($!).
Please let us know how this plays out.
Thanks. |

There is a kind of press fit washer. Like the one that is on the shaft that holds the seat back on. You press it on and you play hell to get it off. |
