Larry does do a good job getting in as much Pontiac racing coverage as possible. In fact, I would say he has all other sources beat in this department. This truely is the best source for racing coverage on Pontiacs.
I like to follow the Nostalgia Super Stock Association. Nothing like seeing Tempest and Catalinas beating up on the other brands. Probably NHRA next. Can you tell I like straight-line performance? |

I appreciate the list of racing sites. I will try to check them out periodically for Pontiac-type info.
That being said, I'm spread pretty thin and would be grateful if anyone passes on ANYTHING Pontiac racing related if they see it. I will follow up and post info or articles for others to enjoy.
I have been receiving very good information from Pontiac concerning their participation in ther Grand American Rolex Series with DP and GT classes, and try to share that as I get it (not every single race, but the major accomplishments). This is some pretty exciting racing too!
I do receive NHRA info as well, but have a real problem with NHRA today. Tell me if I'm alone in this thought. Is it just me, or is NHRA more of a media hype anymore that is most interested in the drivers than the cars? I read ENTIRE reports about a racing accomplishment and sometimes do not even find a single reference to what type of car was being driven.... it is all about the driver and his or her thoughts about the other driver and their maintenance crews. Have you noticed that rarely is Pontiac actually mentioned, but instead only the name of the racing team? I guess that's what happens when the manufacturers back out of the main limelight of development and sponsorship. Sad!
What happened to the good old days when we heard all about the cars, and the drivers bragged about their cars? I guess this is all a part of the watering down of America. |

Your correct about the NHRA. The spotlight is on the drivers much like NASCAR.
Too bad it is not like the 60's and 70's when the cars ruled. Wish I would have grown up in this era and had the pleasure to watch Don Gay, Arnie Beswick, Tyree, etc. Heck, even stock car racing was cool back then. Pontiacs ruled the tracks!!!
Hopefully more members can help out Larry bringing racing highlights for all to enjoy. I am big in to the Pontiac racing events, so I will try my hardest to cover such races. |

Speaking of old time racing... I go back to when dirt tracks ruled!
Man, do I still remember going to Hales Corners Speedway on Hwy. 100 way on the south end of Milwaukee. Even the paved State Fair Park track in West Allis was a blast. There were even more "primitive" tracks in places like Slinger, WI.
What about local racing heros like Fuzzy Fosbender or Miles "the Mouse" Melious? Real names I swear... well, except for the "Fuzzy" one. I hate to ask what that was a nickname for....
QUESTION: Does anyone know if there were ever any local racers during the '50s and '60s short tracks hay days that did any great shakes with Pontiac power? Wouldn't it be great to compile some info about Pontiacs in that group? |
