1975 Full Size 455 Engine Color

Have a restored Grandville Cvt w/455 Engine that looks to be the wrong color. It is a dark metallic blue/green that seems too intense and bright. Don't have any info or pics of proper color. Just bought Dupli-color Engine Enamel called Pontiac Blue DE1610, but there is no indication of whether it is correct for a 1975. Much lighter and no metallic, looks sort of like ocean water color. Any ideas on where to get correct info or color sample? Any help appreciated before I repaint in the wrong color.

By 1975 GM had abandoned individual engine colors for their various divisions and went to a "corporate" blue for all engines. That way a car buyer could not tell if it was actually a Chevy engine in a Buick or an Olds in a Pontiac and so forth. I noticed that Dupli-Color has #1608 General Motors Blue. I have not tried it, but it may be what you're looking for.

Thomast is correct. 1975 had the corp blue. Any local car parts house will have the Dupli color.

The DE1610 I thought was for earlier Pontiac engines such as the '65 engines, etc.

DE1616 is the lighter metallic blue. 1967 up?

I thought the 1975 and 1976 models used a different blue all together too. I had some photos I sent Larry in reference to a 12,000 original mile 455 Trans-Am. The blue used on this engine is correct.

It is the correct color for the '76 455. It may be the correct color for the '75 455 too.

Thanks for the quick replies to my question on engine color. I traded in the #1610 Pontiac Duplicolor for the #1608 GM Blue when in town today. Got home to find a direct email reply from Bill Belk, who has a '75 Grandville Convert in the Photo Gallery. He is also in the POCI and tells me a metallic medium blue is correct for the engine, It is available from Bill Hirsh Products as item #IEEBM559, which is for 1974 to 1977 engines. It probably isn't available from Duplicolor since it covers such a short time span.

Glad to hear you got your question answered. The first time I saw Steve Dobsch's 12,000 original mile 1976 Pontiac, the first thing I noticed was the difference in color on the engine. It did not look correct. It was a darker blue and had metallic in it.

Hopefully I will finish the story on this amazing car so Larry can post it for everyone to enjoy.
