Race at Sikeston was a lot of fun. I wish that Larry and his volunteers would have had a better turn out. Still a great time.
Fastest runs made at the event were a couple of Pontiac powered dragsters. Both ran in the low fives in the 1/8-mile. John, a member of this site, was there with his family. Really nice people! John was running his 1973 T/A street car and his son was running a early Firebird with a Formula hood. His brother had an aluminum headed 400 Pontiac and was running 5.20's. This was one of the dragsters.
The fast four doorslammers consisted of a 1963 Tempest, Scott's 1965 Tempest and a 1969 Firebird. No one else ran in the Frantic four. The Tempest was running 6.10's until he used the nitrous system on his car to squeeze it in to the high 5.90's. He never had the hood off the car while I was around. I do not know what he is running. The 1969 Firebird was running a Butler engine (aftermarket block and heads) with twin toilets and ran in the 6.15 plus range. Scott ran 6.0's with his Tempest. We changed gear sets this year, ultimately hurting our 1/8-mile performance. We ran 5.90's on motor last year. Scott's ride is about 400 to 500lbs heavier than the other cars.
Larry had trouble with the Tiger heads he was running on his Firebird. His ride usually runs 9.20's in the 1/4-mile.
My nephew went five rounds in the street class to take third place. He was probably the only guy that did not buy back in. Sikeston allows to buy back in either the first or second round. Great for his first time ever in eliminations. He has raced only two other times in test and tune sessions.
I went three rounds Saturday night and three on Sunday. RED light (.491) on Sunday. That stunk. Car was running the numbers.
Our friend Charley Schmidt won again!!!! This nineteen year old is doing an awesome job. He took three first places back to back. POCI in Tulsa, Norwalk and Sikeston!! |

I will be forwarding some pictures to Larry in the next week or so.
Charley is going to run his 455 one more season. It runs 10.90's in the 1/4 mile and 6.80's in the 1/8 mile most of the time. Charley wants to get in the 9's.
My father and him are going to build a traditional Pontiac V-8 to do just that. Should be a great project. Charley is really looking forward to it. |

Bruce,
Any Pontiac racing events scheduled for the rest of the year on the West coast? |
