I'm looking into replacing the fuel sending unit of my 69 Bonneville. Nevertheless I can't find the part anywhere. Does anyone have an alternative?
Would it be possible to adapt the one from the 69 Grand Prix?
Thanks. |

The Hollander Interchange Manuals do not break down the sending (float) units, but do definately show the Grand Prix and Bonneville as different gas tanks.
The 1969 Service Manual shows illustrations of the float units grouping Grand Prix and Tempest together and Bonneville separately. By illustration they are quite different from each other.
A quick Google and Amazon search does not turn up any results. Have you checked with Ames who is now handling a lot of big Pontiac parts? You might also check with Steve at Indiana Pontiacs for a good used item (he gives our members a discount) or Frank at Frank's Pontiac Parts. You can find Steve under "AFFILIATES" then "Member Discounts" and Frank has a running banner ad at the top and bottom of our pages.
Question. Is your unit not working? Just slow? Stuck? Because you can remove it and do some cleaning and spraying to improve the performance. Is the float sunk? That part can be replaced. If the gauge justreads funny, make sure all ground wires (especially back at the tank) are in good condition.
Please let us know what you find as others may be having the same problem. _________________ PontiacRegistry.com... building the single largest source of Pontiac information, services, and entertainment in the world! |

My unit is frozen on empty. I haven't removed it yet, though.
In my continued search for the fuel sending unit for my 69 Bonneville (w/ factory A/C), this is what I found so far.
The following sources carry fuel sending units for several models and years but not for my car:
Ames
Performance Years
California Pontiac Restoration - www.pontiacparts.net
www.tanks-to-pans.com
www.inlinetube.com
www.1aauto.com
www.autopartswarehouse.com
www.am-autoparts.com
I checked for used units with these suppliers:
-Frank's (www.frankspontiacparts.com) - Does not have the unit for my car.
- Steve at Indiana Pontiacs (www.indianapontiacs.com) - Says that he has at least 2 of the sending units. The problem is he has no idea if they are any good. He said that if he has one that appears to be in good condition he'll sell them for $100 non AC and $150 for cars with factory AC.
The most promising answer was from Gas Tank Renu-USA-La
9681 Alondra Blv
Bellflower, CA 90706-3658
(562) 920-1871
They carry units for a lot of models and years, except mine. Nevertheless, they claim that if they don't have it they can repair them. I spoke to Sal and he told me that they can repair my unit for around US$ 120 including parts and labor. The turn around time would be two days.
I hope this helps the other fellow Pontiac owners. I'll post any further information and if I get my sending unit fixed or replaced. |
