New AC Install

Just installed the newest Vintage Air AC system w/ 140 amp alternator on my 61 Catalina 2-door 389 Tri-power Auto. The engineer at Vintage Air, San Antonio, TX adapted the original controls to operate the unit. I documented the install w/ photos for a book concerning muscle car AC install. I am installing AC in my '62 GP. I have the original CirclAire setup, but I do not know how much of it will work. Does the Vintage air unit use the original vents, brackets, and does it look stock? Glad to hear that the stock controls could be adapted to the Vintage unit.

Here are some pics of my work in progress. I was initially going to replace my non AC dash with a dash from a car with factory AC, but as it turned out, the dash was welded in in more places than I could have imagined. Needless to say it was pretty well trashed by the time I finally got it out. What I ended up doing was making fiberglass templates of the AC vent housing and control cutouts and transferring them to my non AC dash. I used a drill and dremel tool to cut out the holes. I started out small and SLOWLY made them large enough to accept the housings and the control unit. For the control unit hole, I left it 1/4" too big on two sides and bent them around for strength. I sure I will run into more surprises as I go along, but I am determined to get factory AC in my car!
