I'm glad you asked that question about the coil side. The reference to "+" was in error. Although there are some (according to Padgett) that "fire" from the + side, the common is the negative side (we have removed that reference).

We have made the final, final review of the information and have reposted the article. I thought we had everything covered with the first post, but a couple questions threw us right back into edit mode. It is a complicated subject.

You definitely have an electronic conversion and, yes, will need Padgett's amplifier to use your "passive" tach. Like all "normal" tach hook-ups, use the negative coil side.
