Congrats to the good people of Detroit.. the Cruisers, the Police, the civic leaders. everybody involved for what is the GREATEST car event in the world.. and one that SO relaxed.. so full on for the 12 hrs.. it leaves in empty .. wanting a fix as your drive away..
This years Cruise was my 2nd.. but my 7th trip to the Motors city and this time being on my own. had time to look around the good and .. well. not so great parts of the city... many of the "attractions" and things that are attractive to petrol heads like myself.. with a keen interest in Motown music & older automotive industrial history.. and you know.. for a big city.. overall people there are friendly and accommodating.
GM put in a good effort, as did Ford & Chrysler & a long list of others.. .
For those lucky enough to live long enough to visit Detoit.. time it for the 3rd weekend in August.. . You will NEVER feel the same way again..
Well done Detroit.. your shown the way again..

What kind of attendance does this event usually draw? I am just refering to the number of cars.
Is there any kind of a schedule when it kicks off? My brother-in-law is from Michigan. I was thinking of visiting and checking out the event.
Tons of Pontiacs at the cruise?
Thanks,
Jeff |

LOL! Now that's funny.
One of my life goals is to attend the Woodward Dream Cruise (http://www.woodwarddreamcruise.com/). That's the ultimate cruise and car show IMHO.
Lord willing, I'll do that someday with my Fiero. |

I would like to get some feedback regarding which cars should be allowed in the Dream Cruise. I've attended four times, but only two of those with my car, a 1985 Pontiac Fiero. During the 2005 show, spectators were holding up signs stating "Classic Cars Only". I had one gentleman (and I use that term generously) who walked up to my car, poked his head through the open window and told me that my car did not belong there.
I am bothered by these self-appointed judges. My car is now 21 years old. It is not a daily driver. I have trophies from every year that I have shown the car. Yes it is not from the 1950's or '60's, but I think that the Cruise was never strickly about those cars but instead about celebrating all cars. I will agree that I don't want to see mini-vans or late model daily drivers there (although they can drive in the two inner lanes).
So what are your thoughts? Should cars like my stock 1985 Fiero be banned? How about Buick Grand Nationals, 2006 Corvettes, Vipers or new Mustangs? Should the cars allowed on the two outer lanes or should those lanes be restricted? If so, how? And who should make the decision about what cars are allowed and what cars are not allowed? Presuming that the Dream Cruise continues, when should my car be allowed to participate? When it's 30 years old? Fifty years old? Should the Cruise be self-regulating? _________________ |

You should have rolled the window up on his neck, while asking "Who put you in charge, and by the way, what are you driving?" I think your Fiero should be welcome - there are always people who want to ruin it for everyone else - just ignore them.
I was not lucky enough to get there during the cruise, but was in town last year, and just had to drive Woodward end to end |

Drive what you want to drive and have fun. Your version of "the hobby" doesn't need to match anyone else's version of "the hobby." |

To each his own! I would have been glad to see a Fiero. They are not all that common. very unique cars. As you stated, they were in their prime almost 20 years ago. They deserve credit!
They are a unique piece of Pontiac history and should blend in just as any other cars do. As long as you are having fun, who cares.
Seems like you always end up running across some one like you encountered at large events. That small percent of a@@#*!&@ really do not matter.

... heck.. I've seen SO MANY late model crusiers at Woodwood's many shows... side by side with cars 50 years younger... all helping to hold the excitement levels high.. can't figure what the guys were campaining about.. there are plenty of 50's nights around..
Back in '99 I had a brand new Anniversary TA Convertible to cruise in... and get into everything.... including the Channel 7 news unexpectedly.. and it got deserved coverage.
... this year (2006) PT Cruisers were out in force, Chrysler 300's, Dodge daytona's etc.. .. and some unique onces .. as were SSR's. late mustangs, etc.. even saturn was a major supporter.. All this did was to make the variety GREAT.....
Your Fiero would have caught my eye with admiration & 100's of thousands more likewise then a few poster waving wankers...
If people keep sticking to 50's-60's cars only.. as the only "deserving" cruisers.. we will never develop / or help to pass on.. the levels of appreciation to our younger generation of the wider range of cars we all love... There-by creation our own created 'generation gap" _________________ |
