Can anyone tell me where the wires go for my tach on my 63 GP. There are three wires, blue, black, and red. I know one is for the light. Where do the other two go.
Any help would be appreciated.

It has been ages since hooking one of these up.

We know another goes to the negative (dist) side of the coil.

I do not have the '63 Shop Manual, but some don't cover "accessories" anyway.

If you do a Google search of "1963 Pontiac Tachometer Installation" you will find many discussions of tach installs, but note particularilly for your car. Nonetheless, some make interesting reading and may lead to some better guesses on what to do.

Before trying and burning something out though, a good schematic would be recommended; or some one with a similar arrangement who will check some wire colors/connections. Any '63 owners out there with a tach?

OK, I think I have found most of the answer you need.

Check the illustration included here. Click on picture to open larger.

As we know, one wire is for the light. So track one wire back inside until you find a light bulb on the end.

Then, we found reference to a ground wire in some of our other reading. Check this illustration carefully and you will see one of the wires mounted to the mounting stud of the tach housing. That same wire hooks to the mounting stud of the actual tach meter to the mounting bracket inside of the housing.

That only leaves one more wire to deal with, and we know that has to go to the dist side of the coil.
