I have a question about changing the heads. I have a 64 389 and was wondering if the 65 and later heads would fit the block? I'm thinking about using a set of ram air ll heads from a 400. I have a set of heads off a 69 428 out of a GP. Anyone out their know what can be swapped in?

I have 66 heads on my 84 389 they fit just fine, however the intake bolt pattern is different after 64 so you need to get an intake for your newer heads.

I built my wife's '66 389 with 400 heads. A few things to keep in mind...different push rods & oil dipstick need to be considered, but the engine runs great and the big valves make lots of power!
