Reverse Gear

Have gears P-N-D-L-R.prooblem is with Reversa as she will not engage Reverse unless engine is warm(or hot) & when she does it is with a clunk sound.....can anyone advise as this is embarassing at times...repairs were done to the steering column by a young mechanic. When put into Reverse gear it is engaged in L(low gear)instead of Reverse.

What year Pontiac is this? I may be able to do some checking, or perhaps we have something in our On-Line Reference Manual Library already; have you checked there?

Our automatic transmission Tech Advisor, Steve Peluso, is at Norwalk right now (lucky guy!). Check in our Tech Advisor listing for his shop number and give him a call Monday (or maybe give him a chance to get caught up from his travels, and call on Tuesday). He is the best when it comes to Pontiac automatics.
