1937 Business Coupe

PostPosted: Tue Oct 14, 2008 1:03 pm    Post subject: Decoding 1937 Pontiac Business Coupe Reply with quote

I just aquired a 37 Business Coupe unrestored. Looking for history information. 72 miles on odometer. Was in a building fire and parked.
I believe CA indicates built in Pontiac, Mi
Was Fisher body 5893, before or after strike? I believe it was real close to strike, but don't know which side. Might have been black with red striping, but can't match paint numbers.
S/N CA4882
Style 37-2627B
Body S/N 5893
Trim # 40
Paint # 8
Body By Fisher

Seriously.... 72 miles?!

If it was parked with 72 miles and never moved because of fire damage, be glad it was the first year for the all-metal body. Wood might not have faired so well.

You are correct about the "CA" being Pontiac, Michigan manufactured. It is quite an early one too, being only the 3,881st '37 built out of 153,826 at that plant. Unfortunately, there are no breakdowns by body style.

I am not familiar with a strike. Was it at the Fisher plant? I can't find anything on a Pontiac strike in '37.

I'm drawing a blank onthe paint codes too. Hopefully someone else can help.

You can see much more about this unique old Pontiac as it was featured as our On-Line Magazine November '08 "Cover Car".

You can also follow the disasssembly and restoration of this neat old car through progress reports we will be featuring. This will probably be the only time you ever get to do a complete restoration and never get your hands a bit dirty.

Also check out the poster available under "Pontiac Information"... see last listing "Pontiac Collectable Art."
