Gee! Just when some people (mostly Dealers) complained about new "clone" cars. Pontiac unveiled this past Memorial Day, the US Government's EPA Certification for yet another Pontiac.
The G3, as it will be called, is a mirror image of the Chevrolet Aveo. Powered by a 1.6 H/P (Briggs and Stratton?) offering 24/35 mpg . It will help Pontiac bring it's fleet average up a few notches.
As for the Dealerships, my guess is that they would prefer a distinct car that was theirs and theirs alone. Will the consumer have to dig a little deeper into their pockets for the Arrowhead logo?

I notice that the numbers keep going down. Except for the G8, we had a G6, then a G5, now a G3. When they get to zero, is that the end of Pontiac?
Is this G3 sold in the U.S. too? I see it is sold in Mexico as the G3 and Canada as the Wave. I just don't see what is holding PMD up today. If it is the other "clones" of Chevrolet or other imports (ie: Vibe), why bother? If it is the hopes of the G8, I hope it works in the new days of projected $4-5.00 per gallon gas costs. If it is in hopes of the new UTE coming out, ditto on the gas prices, and concerns of practicality of a two seater pickup.
We can poke all the fun we want at PMD, but I sure would hate to be an auto manufacturer today. People scream for excitement and power, and then cry over gas prices... not to mention just having a good job today where you can even consider buying a new car.... welcome to the 21st century! |

That is sharp.... very sharp. I wish PMD had just marketed the Holden rather than mess around adding "Pontiac looking" stuff to it. This is far better looking than the Pontiac version we have seen. I'm speaking of the front end here, I don't think they messed with the back.
This dealer rear window and back cover treatment is really slick looking. What's the deal with the rocked cover? Is that an exhaust outlet?
Are these UTEs running V8 or V6 power? They are still asking around in the U.S. about what the heck to name our version. Typical U.S. marketing "Yeah, let's do it, let's build it, let's price it so..... dah, what should we call it?" What does Holden call theirs?
Keep us posted on how it continues to do down there. |

I'm impressed. This car looks excellent. This just what pmd needed. Gm just has to learn how to market the UTE it is clearly its own vechicle. Larry said it perfectly.this

For some reason a lot of the kids have been opting for yellows and greens for their custom paint jobs. Some even have chameleon colors blending from one to the other... yuck!
This sharp little Holden (soon to be a Pontiac) pick 'em up truck is a color that only a urologist could love.
Have you checked out some of the other posts that "ozpont" has put up of the latest things seen buzzing around the streets downunder? Seems like Australia is the place to be today for the auto world.... at least GM/PMD (via Holden). |
