I have been on the search for an H.O. Racing Enterprise Scoop for several months. Some members have tried to get me pointed in the right direction, but unfortunately most of these searches have been unsuccessful for me.

I thought my best lead was when I received information on Ken Crocie of H.O. from a fellow member. I have tried to contact him, but have been unsuccesful. He has not replied to me.

I have tried E-Bay, and have turned up with empty hands too. I really like the look of the scoop and its simplicity. It bolts directly on to the lip of the shaker hood. Absolutely no modifications are required.

If I am not able to get the H.O. scoop, I have decided to go another route. My 455 is currently topped off with a Edelbrock single-plane intake and 750 Holley carb. I plan on keeping this the same. Does any aftermarket companies make a drop base air cleaner that will allow the use of the taller single-plane intake, holley carb and stock shaker scoop? Will it fit properly under the hood and appear stock?

I would really appreciate some expertise on this. I need some sort of route to use on the hood. I am tired of having an air cleaner poking through the hood of my T/A. It really takes away from the cars appearance. It really hurts driving if the weather is bad too.

Please help me out.

Thanks again,

Jeff Redhage

I am currently running an Edelbrock single plane torker intake. I have a holley carb with large fuel bowls. I am running an 1" spacer too(I can remove at any time - it does help my T/A's 1/4-mile times - 11.80's). I have major clearance issues even if I were to strap a stock shaker to the original hood. I did not want to modify the original hood in any way. This includes drilling or bracing of any fashion.

The only stock air cleaner that would work with my carb would be from a 1970 Ram Air IV Trans-Am. They only made a handful of these, so they are rare and pricey. The air cleaner was actually designed for the Ram Air V (the only Pontiac engine to run a Holley carb). It ended up on the Ram Air IV T/A, which ran a quadrajet.

My T/A is an original SD-455 car. I had a H.O. dual plane intake with the original 800cfm Carb. The shaker worked fine. Since then, I changed the combo.

A H.O scoop requires no drilling, modifiying, etc. It is much taller than the stock shaker and will accomodate my air cleaner. As a personal note, I like the way the H.O. scoop looks. They are fairly uncommon. If you check out the most recent Hemmings Muscle Machine magazine, there is an article on a T/A that is running at Bonneville. It is running an H.O. scoop.

If I can not find an H.O. scoop, I want to use the original style shaker, but keep it functional. I guess you can say I am picky. I know it may all seems crazy, but it is what I was wanting ot run on the car.

Thanks,
Jeff

I am quite familiar with bodywork, but I have not used fiberglass much. Once you form with foam (are you refering to something similar to the expansion foam you can pick up in the store, correct - or some other type of foam?), What is the next step. I know the resin will add strength and make the form smooth, correct?

Once I made the form, I could make others too for my friends T/A's. We have a total of about 5 of them.

Any simple steps or instructions? I would probably be far better off doing something like this. At least I will get my problem resolved and make something I will like.

Thanks,

Jeff

The white T/A is running one of the tall H.O. scoops. This is exactly what I am looking for.

Thank you.

I am probably going to try and make something similar.

I've got a link for a place that makes the drop down air cleaner...http://rides.webshots.com/album/129263156jDeXOf
Hope this helps. This guy (Larry) is a member on the PY board and I believe the PZ board.

No I haven't. I am still actively looking for an H.O. transcoop. Maybe I will run across one one day for a reasonable price.

I am set on this scoop. Like the way it looks and the simplicity of it.

If I ever get some time off work, I may have to try and mold my own. Just going to have to light a spark under myself and get it done.
