I was wondering if anyone could tell me the differences between the 1957 canadian and american pontiacs. How simular are they to the 1957 chevs?

I'm not that familiar with the '57 Can Pontiacs, but I know that in '64 the Canadian Pontiacs had Chevy engines, but shared the same sheet metal with their US counter parts. My thought would be that they share the same engine, but that's about it.

Well there is a lot of diffrence.
The engines and trany frame axel chassi are all chevy stuff.
The hood front fenders are much shorter and that means the wheelbase is to. Steering wheel chevy, Interior is pontiac.
front bumper diffrent lenght round the corners.
sometimes gauges could be shoving numbers instead of a nedle on certin pins.

the gang has pretty well covered it but being Canadian, I can go abit further. All mechanical parts, d/line, brakes, axels, strg. etc. are chevy, engine choice was either a 6 cyl [ that was larger than chevy's] 261 cu.in or the small block V8 265 in 55 to 56 * either 265 or 283 in 57 All automatics were the "slip & slide" with Power Glide. Interiors were much more fancy than the chevy's, pontiac dashes & better Ulpolstery etc. thus the price was above the chev. for some reason the 55 to 57 pontiac didn't survive aswell as the chevy as they seem to out # surviver's at car shows

Check out this article in our On-Line Magazine for a pretty thorough run down on the wonderful world of Canadian Pontiacs:

http://www.pontiacregistry.com/members/online_magazine.php?view=1&article=167

I personally think Canadian Pontiacs will one day be one of trhe most collectable Pontiacs because they are so unique (albeit Chebby powered in most cases!), and the production numbers were, compared to US, very low.

Share your Canadian Pontiac photos and stories so I can do a feature article on one of your neat Pontiacs.

Thanks,
Larry
