Hi Iv'e just joined the pontiac registry, and I was wondering if anyone could tell me the wheelbase dimensions of the 1930 pontiac coupe , In my excitement to get started working on the car I never measured before I stripped it down to the bare frame. ..Thanks _________________ 1930 pontiac coupe

You can thank Pontiac Author and Historian, John Gunnell, for the following information from his excellent "Standard Catalog of Pontiac 1926-2002" book... a MUST for all Pontiac lovers!
1930
PONTIAC - BIG SIX - 6-30B - SIX: A sloping windshield characterized the
"real" 1930 Pontiac's new looks. Horizontal lines were emphasized by a
half-oval belt molding that extended entirely around the car and over the
hood to the radiator. The hood had 31 thin, vertical louvers. The vertical
cowl feature line was straightened. A host of technical advances were led
by improvements to the engine mounting and suspension systems. A Custom Sedan and Sport Coupe were new body styles. Closed cars had oval rear windows again. Plated headlamp buckets were used on Sport and Custom models. Closed models had cadet style sun visors.
I.D. DATA: Serial numbers on right side of rear cross-member or under left front fender. Starting: 591501. Ending: 649000. Engine numbers on left
side of crankcase or left front corner of block. Starting: 673501. Ending:
744000 (approximate). All cars built at Pontiac, Mich.
ENGINE: In-line. L-head. Six. Cast iron block. Bore & Stroke: 3-5/16 x
3-7/8 in. Displacement: 200 cu. in. Compression Ratio: 4.9:1. Brake
horsepower: 60 at 3000 rpm. NACC horsepower: 26.3. Main bearings: Three. Valve lifters: Solid. Carburetor: Marvel one-barrel.
CHASSIS: Wheelbase: 110 in. Overall Length: 167 in. Tires: 29 x 5.00. |

My wife is writing history articles on rare cars for our website. This sounds like a good place for her to pick up some new information. What would be the most rare Pontiac ever made? Those are the only cars she'll write about. I'll check back later to see if anyone came up with a rare Pontiac. Thanks _________________ Larry

Starting with the early years you would have to consider the 1932 V-8 cars, then perhaps the 1937 and '38 convertible sedans. Then there would be things that made not-so-rare cars rare because of options, like a 1954 Pontiac with factory air conditioning. Consider also the sedan deliveries especially after 1954 (?) when they were only made in Canada.
For later years there are of course the 1957 fuel injected Boneville convertibles, followed by 1958 Bonneville convertibles.
There are a number of rarer "newer" Pontiacs like 1969 Trans Ams (especialy the convertible), Can Ams, 4-speed '73 Grans Ams, some Judge convertibles, and certainly most all H.O. and RamAir cars are pretty rare.
Of speciality interest would be any show cars and prototypes too.
This could be fun "Searching for Rare Pontiacs". If you want some production numbers, just ask and I'll check out what I can for you.
Let's hear from everyone elso too! |
