I am looking for the June 2006 Smoke Signals. I wanted to see if any members could help me locate one. The magazine contains an article about my father and good friend. "A Pontiac Legend." It contains several photos of my father racing early 421 Super Duty Pontiac. I am wanting the hard copy of the magazine. Thank you for any help in getting this publication.

Thank you so much David. I appreciate you sending me the article. My father and Selden were very influential to me. My love for Pontiacs stretches over a very broad spectrum. The Fiero just happens to be one of my all-time favorite cars produced by Pontiac. It is very uncommon to see them around my area. I will occasionally spot one in St. Louis, but not very often. I always look for them in the autotrader or other used car publications.

I checked out your website this evening. I like the 1985 car you had. It was the 2M6? I bet this car was rare. I did not realize they built a V-6 Fiero in '85. The 1984 models were only offered with the 2.5, correct? Were the 151 cubic inch iron duke 4-cylinder and 2.8 V-6 the only available powerplants for the Fiero? I do not know a great deal of history on these cars. I owned two '85's. They were both 2M4 cars. One was white and the other was red. I purchased the white Fiero for a mere $125.00. It was extremely nice(paint and interior were excellent condition) and had the sunroof and luggage rack. The #3 cylinder lost compression. I repaired and drove this car for a while. The other was red and I picked it up for $500.00. The paint on this car was bad. Typical GM paint in the 80's where the clearcoat peels. I rebuilt the 2.5 and drove the wheels off this car. It was a blast to drive. My nephew drove the car for over a year. He absolutely loves Fieros. Every time we go to Norwalk to the Ame's Tri-Power Nationals, he can not wait to check out the Fiero car show field. They do have some cool Fieros there. I bet he uses three rolls of film just on the Fieros. I am proud he takes such interest in these cars.

My wife was at the Missouri State Fair this year. They had over 20 Fieros on display there. Wish I would have went with her. I thought this was very unusual. I bet it was pretty cool though.

Do you have any big Fiero clubs in your area? How does your GT Fiero run with all the mods you added? I am sure the car has very respectable performance. I do not see how it couldn't. I reaaly like it. I should track down that Fiero club in Missouri and have them display their cars at the car show this year. Sedalia is only about 1.5 or 2 hours away.

Thank you again for sending me the article. I really appreciate you taking the time to scan it.

Jeff

You're welcome Jeff, I'm glad I still had it.

I actually don't see too many Fieros even around here in Los Angeles. I almost never see one when I'm driving my Fiero. When I do see one I either wave to them or try and acknowledge their presence in some way. I actually get excited.

Yes, my 85 was a 2M6. There aren't very many of them. That sure was a great car. The V6 was first offered in 85 and was available on the SE and standard on the GT (first year for GT). 84 models only had the iron duke.

Sadly, we don't have a large Fiero club in L.A.. Surprising isn't it. With all the car nuts around here, you'd think we'd have a large one. There is a small, unofficial club called Fieros West that operates out of a company called West Coast Fiero. We get together maybe 3 or 4 times a year, but that's about it. No official meetings, no dues, no real organization. Too bad. That's one reason I joined POCI. I hoped that I would be able to hook up with a lot of other Fiero and Pontiac owners and have a good time. They have a lot of meetings and things, but they are mainly held in the Orange County area and it's a pretty good hike to get to them for me, especially in L.A. traffic.

The performance on my car is pretty good, I think, compared to a stock 2.8. We have very strict emissions laws here so I can't get too carried away. My options are few on the budget I have anyway, but what I've done to the car puts a grin on my face. I don't have any time slips or dyno numbers on my car, but my calibrated butt tells me it's a bit quicker than stock. I'd still like to do some more exhaust work on her.

To get an organized group of Fiero owners to your show, you can try and contact Gateway Fieros (http://www.gatewayfieroclub.com/). Their group is based about an hour or so from you and they may be willing to caravan a group over for the show.

Thank you David for the info on the Gateway Fiero club. I will see if I can get them to come down. I think it would be great for our show.

Have you ever heard of a G-Tech? It is a good way to test performance and they are very inexpensive. I picked mine up for $89.00. The new unit are about three times higher. You can still purchase the older units. It is a great way to keep track of upgrades.

I use a G-Tech on my '74 Super Duty a lot. I test at the track too, but the G-Tech saves me a lot of time if I can not make it to Gateway International. It is accurate within a tenth of a second and one m.p.h. I have my big tank running 11.80's in the 1/4-mile. The G-tech proved very helpful in this quest for speed.

Thank you David.

.. while you guys are talking fiero.. don't know how many of you ever got to see this picture.. but a few people did who unfortantely probably should not have .. but its history... and this picture was taken a decade after the last Fiero left the line.
I can't say where it was taken, although I did take the picture & a few others..... but like alot of things Pontiac did.. they were VERY interesting.. and if things just had of been able to live its life out a little longer.....very much a winner.. taking the Feiro's to the next level.. Cool picture. I have seen that prototype before, just not that picture of it. If I remember correctly, Pontiac had that car stored for some time behind the Pontiac MI plant while it was shut down (I think they're building trucks there now). Pontiac has the GT prototype displayed at the Tech Center along with several other interesting Fieros.

GM was kind enough to bring this car to the 20th anniversary celebration in Pontiac and the word is it will also be at the 25th coming up in July 2008. I plan to be there. Very Happy

Thanks for sharing the photo.
