When I lived in Milwaukee I handled the Harley-Davidson account. I produced much of their technical manuals, training materials, and many advanced engineering presentation items working directly with Willie G. Davidson in the design department.
I remember when AMF bought Harley and proceeded to run them into the ground. They reduced quality in hopes of reducing prices and competing with the foreign bikes. It damn near killed them!
I also remember when a group of executives bought the company back from AMF. There was a huge bannor flying across the street at the old Juneao Avenue headquarters proclaiming proudly "The Eagle Soars Again!"
And did it ever! A bold group of visionaries decided that if they BUILT WHAT AMERICA WANTED, even if it cost more, and they delivered the quality people demanded..... they would succeed. And they did better than ever thought.

I'm afraid that the only history they're looking to now, is from that old G.M. adage of-'what's good for G.M., is good for the country'-which came to mean, we'll build what you want, and you'll want it gud dimit!
